MATCH REPORT | DUNDEE UNITED FC WOMEN 1-2 ABERDEEN WOMEN

28th November 2022

After a late winner last week, Dundee United experienced the opposite on Sunday as Aberdeen took all three points at Tannadice.

Bayley Hutchison had put the visitors ahead early on with Danni McGinley levelling the scores before half time. Despite numerous chances for United, Hutchison struck again late on to take the points up north.

Graeme Hart fielded the same team that defeated Spartans last week while Jade McLaren and Rachel Todd had to settle for spots on the bench.

Both sides had chances in the opening minutes as Danni McGinley was denied by Annalisa McCann before Eva Thomson hit the post for the visitors.

Aberdeen looked the better side in the first stages and deservedly took the lead in the fifteenth minute after a counter attack left Bayley Hutchison through on goal and the young attacker took her chance well.

The next chance fell the visitors’ way with midfielder Eilidh Shore blasting over from distance.

United came into the game after the half hour mark with Neve Guthrie heading wide from a Claire Delworth cross.

Robyn Smith could, and probably should, have pulled United level twice in quick succession with her first strike being saved by McCann; shortly after McGinley played her in but she couldn’t keep her shot down.

United grabbed an equaliser with the last touch before half time when Delworth found McGinley, she rolled her marker and fired fiercely into the roof of the net from just inside the box.

Graeme Hart’s side kept up their pressure early in the second half as Claire Delworth had an effort blocked before Cassie Cowper’s free kick caused problems in the box.

Danni McGinley did well to set up Tammy Harkin in the 55th minute with the midfielder sending her strike just past the post with McCann scrambling.

Just after the hour mark Smith, Harkin and McGinley all had efforts that didn’t trouble McCann.

Aberdeen almost retook the lead in the 66th minute when Francesca Ogilvie forced McNicoll into tipping the ball round the post.

Three minutes later McGinley ran onto a flick on and found herself one on one with McCann; the Aberdeen stopper pushing away her strike.

Tammy Harkin and sub Ciara Bonner couldn’t find the target from distance and United were to rue their missed chances in injury time.

Aberdeen broke on a counter attack and Hutchison shook off Lisa Ryan to slot past McNicoll.
