UNITED UNDER-18'S BEATEN IN DERBY MATCH

7th December 2001

The United Under-18's played city rivals Dundee this afternoon at the home of Carnoustie Juniors, this being a home match for the Dens Park club.

The Young Tangerines lost a goal within 30 seconds of the kick-off and were up against it right from the start. Coach Paul Hegarty commented, "We were up against a side that were very fired up following their goal in the first minute and when they went two ahead, a hard task was made very difficult indeed."

United stepped up a gear in the second half. "We did much better after the break," said Paul. "We created more chances and enjoyed most of the play."

A goal from Stephen McGowan (pictured) from a diving header following fine wing play from Danny Ogunmade brought United back into the game and Hegarty felt that his team might have levelled the match. "I was pleased that the players rallied and did not give up the ghost. With a bit of luck, we could have taken a share of the spoils."
