First Minister To Visit Dundee United to Support Festive Friends Initiative

24th December 2023

Dundee United and Dundee United Community Trust will welcome First Minister Humza Yousaf to Tannadice this Christmas Eve.

Aligning with DUCT and the SPFL's Festive Friends project, Tannadice will play host to older people who are at risk of isolation and loneliness over the festive period.

This follows on from the success of last year's project where we reached over 250 individuals in the local community.

Working with other volunteers to prepare and serve meals to those in attendance, the First Minister will join SPFL Trust Chief Executive Nicky Reid,  Dundee United FC Chief Operating Officer Joe Rice and Dundee United Community Trust Chief Executive Jamie Kirk in lending a hand while thanking those that make the service possible for offering their time.

Upon the announcement, Jamie Kirk said, “We’re thrilled to be welcoming the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, to our annual Festive Friends event in partnership with the SPFL Trust. While a season of joy for many, we know that there are those in our community who find this time of year extra tough for a variety of reasons. Whether through food insecurity, loneliness and isolation or other challenges, we’ve seen consistently over the years how Tannadice Park and the reach of Dundee United FC through the work of the Community Trust can play a major part in improving the lives of people in Dundee".
