UNITED/HAMILTON AT HOME TO AYR IN CUP

26th January 2002

Dundee United will have to overcome Ayr United at Tannadice Park if they are to progress into the semi-finals of the Tennent's Scottish Cup for the second successive season, assuming of course they manage to overcome Hamilton in the re-arranged Fourth Round tie this coming Tuesday evening. Should United triumph in midweek, it would mean that United will have received a home draw in the third, fourth and fifth rounds of this season's Scottish Cup so far, the Tangerines having defeated Forres Mechanics in the previous round 3-0 at Tannadice (pictured).

Ayr United defeated Dunfermline 3-0 this afternoon to reach the quarter-final stage and will fancy their chances having already reached the semi-finals of the CIS Cup with a match against Hibernian, who beat United in the previous round, to look forward to. Like the Tangerines, the Honest Men also reached the semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup last season.

The other ties are near neighbours Forfar against Rangers, Aberdeen against the winners of Kilmarnock versus Celtic and Dundee or Partick Thistle against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
