LEFT SIDED PLAYERS RETURN TO PROVIDE BALANCE

2nd February 2002

The weather around the country and in particular on Tayside has been the subject that has dominated most people's thoughts recently. United Manager Alex Smith has been no different.

"It has been very frustrating that we haven't been able to play any football since the win over St Johnstone. As always at this time of year, the weather can play havoc. We are hoping that the rain will stay away sufficiently and let the park to dry out allowing us to play today and in the Cup on Monday. The Kilmarnock match is an extra important game as it gives United the chance to leapfrog them in the league and to possibly claim a top six place."

Turning to United's record against today's visitors, the Manager revealed how difficult he thought the match would be. "Kilmarnock have had the better of us for too many years now. They are a skilful and very well organised team and provide a good example of how a provincial club should be run. They are also excellently managed by Bobby Williamson and his staff."

The United squad looks like being boosted by the return of vital players from illness and suspension. "We are pleased to welcome back into the squad Hasney Aljofree from suspension and Jim Paterson (pictured) from illness. They are both very important left sided players for United and provide many more options on that side of the pitch giving us a better balance to the team."

The United gaffer turned his attention to Alan Combe's departure. "As reported, we have allowed Alan Combe to go on loan to Bradford. This move offers Alan first team football and the chance to impress watching English clubs. Alan goes south to Yorkshire with our best wishes and we hope that he does well in his time there."

Today's match kicks off at 3pm and is pay-at-the-gate. Season Tickets are valid and voucher 17 is required.
