UNITED CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE AGAINST KILMARNOCK

2nd February 2002

United crashed yet again to visitors Kilmarnock to stretch a set of results that make grim reading for all Arabs. It is now fifteen league matches in a row without a win against the Rugby Park side with just three goals scored. It is also seven matches since United have scored against Bobby Williamson's side.

Manager Alex Smith selected the first eleven that had beaten St Johnstone 4-1. This meant that Jamie Fullarton remained at left back despite the return of Hasney Aljofree who had to be content with a place on the bench alongside the returning Jim Paterson.

Against a team that they struggle to score against, United made it very difficult for themselves when they lost a goal in the first minute, Craig Dargo putting the visitors ahead. United went in search of an equaliser but it was Kilmarnock who should have been further ahead by the interval.

Still only a goal behind going into the second half, the Tangerines continued to struggle to get back into the match and, true to form, the Ayrshire side punished United again with a killer second goal from Kevin McGowan.

Alex Smith threw on Paterson, Winters and McConalogue but it made little difference and the poor run continued, possibly for another season. For a more detailed report, click on Results on the menu bar.
