FRENCH AND DANISH TRIALISTS ARRIVE

9th August 2000

New boss Alex Smith will run the rule over two visitors from the continent in a closed-doors affair against Dunfermline on Thursday.
French striker Nicolas Oudec and an unnamed Danish defender arrived on Tayside today. The pair's arrival, so soon after Smith took over from Paul Sturrock as manager, represents the urgency to get things right - and soon!

Explained the newcomer,"There has been an awful lot asked of the younger element of the squad, and in some cases it is showing. "The likes of Steven Thomson and Stephen McConalogue have had to shoulder a sometimes unfair burden. Too much at times. "Those players are only examples of those who have needed help from elsewhere in the side.

"The fans have been calling for one or two new signings--but last weekend at Easter Road surely proved that we need more than a few to help speed up a recovery of form. "I had a chat with the squad, when I cited a renewal of self-belief and a reminder of the history of this club, as my main demands".
