McGOWAN CRACKER NETS UNDER-21'S FULL POINTS

27th February 2002

The Dundee United Under-21 side made hard work of beating their counterparts from Paisley this evening when they struggled to an uninspired 1-0 win. The young Tangerine's three points kept their good run of form going however as they recorded their seventh win in nine matches.

The 7-0 defeat of St Mirren earlier in the campaign seemed like a distant memory as United toiled to make the breakthrough but Stephen McGowan, who had come on as a substitute for the injured Jim Paterson on the half hour mark, scored the game's only goal in the 80th minute when he played a one two with Stef McConalogue and smashed the ball into the Saints net past keeper Robertson.

The major downside to the match was the injury to Jim Paterson. The first team player was taken to hospital to have his ankle injury checked out.

Final score:
Dundee United Under-21's 1 St Mirren Under-21's 0

UNITED: JARVIE, DUFF, REILLY, HANNAH, COCOZZA, McCRACKEN
