The Under-21's are in action this evening at Tannadice with visitors St Mirren making the 90 minute trip east from Love Street. United are reasonably confident of a result this evening having beaten Dundee at Dens Park last week and having won by a decisive 7-0 over Saints in Paisley back in August. Having won six matches out their previous eight in the SPL Under-21 League, the young Tangerines are close to third top and a win this evening will see them consolidate that position.
Coach Maurice Malpas is looking forward to the match. "We will be putting out a reasonably young team this evening. The only experience in the side will come from David Hannah (pictured) and Jim Paterson. I hope that the lads will continue with the form that we showed from the last period of the game seven days ago against Dundee. We will be looking at the performance of the younger players in order to gauge their progress over the season. This will be a difficult game and one of our own players on loan to Saints, Lee Curran, may play against us."
Maurice hopes to introduce some of the Under-18's into the team this evening. "We would like to introduce two or three Youth team players this evening as part of a process of testing some of them at a higher level."
This evening's match is the first in a run of three Under-21 fixtures over the next ten days, games that have built up due to the many postponements following the inclement weather of the past month or so.
The match kicks off at 7pm and is pay at the gate with season ticket holders admitted free of charge on production of their season ticket book.
The United pool for this evening will be Jarvie, Duff, Reilly, Hannah, Cocozza, McCracken, O'Brien, Venetis, McConalogue, Carson, Paterson, Fionda, O'Donnell, Ogunmade, McMillan and McGowan.
