MAURICE DELIGHTED WITH UNDER-21'S DESPITE DEFEAT

5th March 2002

Despite having been defeated 2-3 by Dunfermline on Monday night, Maurice Malpas lavished praise upon his team the next day: "I am extremely delighted with the way we played", he said, "and we definitely deserved to take more from the match. We conceded two goals due to inexperience - which is tolerable given the very young team we have. It was an excellent all-round performance, yet particular credit must go to 16-year-young Steven Anderson whose performance was outstanding, as was that of youngsters Stephen McGowan, Danny Ogunmade and Stephen O'Donnell.

Pleased with the attempts on goal, Maurice continued: "Ronnie O'Brien scored a world-Cup goal and Stef added to his recent good run netting the second in typical striker fashion."

As to the opposition, Maurice declared: "Dunfermline fielded a strong team with six or seven of their players regularly featuring in first team action, but we more than upheld our own. We play Dunfermline again next week and the task is to meet them in the same form then and, hopefully, take home the points, too."
