UNDER-21'S WIN AGAINST HIBERNIAN

18th March 2002

United Under-21's returned to winning ways at Tannadice this evening when they defeated an experienced Hibernian side. Substitutes from Saturday's match at Celtic Derek Lilley, Jim Paterson and David Winters all started the match for the young Tangerines. Derek Townsley, Paco Luna and Eduardo Hurtado all played for the visitors from the start.

The match started off fairly even with Paul Jarvie in the United goal making a string of inspirational stops to keep the Easter Road side out. The early saves paid off when Lilley opened the scoring with a cracking shot.

There were no further goals in the first period and it was a further twenty minutes after the break before the next goal went in, Townsley equalising for Hibs.

With the match heading for a draw, Winters put United back in front in the 84th minute. With two minutes remaining, Winters scored again sealing the three points for the Tannadice side.

A good win for United Paul Jarvie in top form helping to keep United in the top half of the SPL Youth League.
