CHARLIE DELIGHTED WITH HEARTS WIN

10th March 2002

There were smiles all round at Tannadice following United's second win of the season at Tynecastle on Saturday. Manager Alex Smith had praise for two players in particular. "Both Paul Gallacher and Charlie Miller were absolutely outstanding in the Hearts match. Young Paul gave a superb goalkeeping performance. He was a wee bit unfortunate with the goal by taking his fist to it and his punch landed on the Hearts lad when the ball was played in but the rest of his performance was outstanding. One of his saves was world class. Charlie Miller is just a superb player when he plays so far up as long as we get the service up to him. We had a very young team out there today and they take a lot of credit for how they played. They did not let the occasion overawe them, retaining their composure when Hearts applied the pressure."

Charlie Miller (pictured) was pleased with his role up front. "It was good to get a victory. They (Hearts) outplayed us at Tannadice earlier in the season. The boys were desperate to get a result after our performance at Ayr. It was incredible to think that both Jim Lauchlan and myself were the oldest players in the side at the age of 25."

Charlie accepted that United were unlikely to make the top six this campaign. "This season looks like one where we will not make the top six but the win was important as we have had a nightmare run recently."
