19th April 2002

Looking ahead to Saturday's match with Dundee at Dens, Manager Smith is anticipating another passionate derby encounter. In a preview on Friday afternoon, the United boss declared: "We are going into an extremely important league game tomorrow against our city rivals in a fixture that has never produced anything other than a very entertaining, exciting and sometimes controversial match, and always seems to provide the thrilling moments most football supporters are craving for. It is obviously very important for us to win tomorrow in order to eclipse Dundee in the league, yet it is just as crucial to do so for the sake of our loyal supporters, and you can rest assured we will do our utmost to take home all three points."

On the injury situation, Smith confirmed that Jamie McCunnie was approaching the point where he could make his first team comeback after injury and suspension with the final decision on his possible deployment being taken in the morning. United skipper Danny Griffin, however, is almost certain to miss the occasion having taken a knock in last week's match against Motherwell. Meanwhile, United's policy of introducing young players to first team level is set to continue and McConlaogue, Winters, O'Donnell and Ogunmade figure in Alex's selection.
