GALLACHER SET FOR CAP

22nd May 2002

United Goalkeeper Paul Gallacher (pictured) could make his first appearance for Scotland versus a Hong Kong XI on Berti Vogts's Far East Tour tomorrow. In an interview held this afternoon, Manager Alex Smith gave Gallacher his vote of confidence: "Paul has had a very, very good season. In fact he has been exceptional ever since being called up to the first team to the point that he has kept Alan Combe out of the starting eleven - a tremendous testament to his ability. It would be nice if Gallacher attains his first cap, it would certainly give him and the Club a great boost."

"I am somewhat disappointed Thompson has not been deployed as of yet" Smith continued. "He reportedly has incurred an injury in training which I sincerely hope he can shake off prior to the third Far East match. He was so looking forward to playing for Scotland again."

Smith also confirmed that ten young players would join the Club in the new season directly from school. Smith maintained: "We are hoping for a few new stars to emerge from this selection."
