United have been granted permission to play in their new Centenary Collection strip against Kilmarnock tomorrow. This is the second in a series of five intended Centenary strips in the build up to the Club's Centenary year in 2009.
Two seasons ago, the first kit in the series brought a radical departure from normal United strips with a green shirt that paid homage to the Club's origins as Dundee Hibernian. The new kit has a black shirt, white shorts with a tangerine and black stripe and has white socks although United have had to change for Sunday's match to black socks to avoid a colour clash with the home side. Playing in black pays tribute to an important time in United's history when, in the early 1960's, under then manager Jerry Kerr, the Club for the first time consolidated a top division position, a status that only once in the last 42 years has been lost. General Manager Bill Campbell said, "the black top not only makes a good football shirt but it doubles nicely as a leisure item as well. After Sunday's match, the strip will be on display in the United Souvenir Shop and orders can be taken in advance from this Monday. We hope to take delivery early June for the holiday period and I am pleased that we have been able to provide the latest United kit into the Club shop in time for the summer market for quite a few years now."
Advance orders can be taken direct in the Club Shop or by telephoning 01382 204066 and paying by credit card.
