UNITED PAIR ENJOY FIRST SCOTLAND WIN FOR VOGTS

23rd May 2002

Following the 4-0 win of Berti Vogts's Scotland outfit over a Hong Kong XI today, Alex Smith was very pleased that both Thompson (pictured) and Gallacher finally got their chance to make an impact at the last match of their Far East tour: "I am glad Tommo was fit to play today. I am particularly delighted that he scored, which will no doubt have made for a very enjoyable third match for Scotland.

"Paul Gallacher also has reason to be pleased with himself", Smith continued. "He has been in the national squad on several occasions but only got his real first taste today. He did very well on his national debut and it looks as if a big career could be opening up for him now."

"This is the first time in several years that two Dundee United players figured in the national side" Smith maintained. And of course former United player Christian Dailly captained the team and scored as well."
