The Bank of Scotland SPL fixture list was unveiled this morning and United have been given an interesting start to the season with a visit to newly promoted Partick Thistle.
The match has a strong sense of fate surrounding it following the Jags relegation to the First Division in the 1995-1996 season. Few Arabs will need reminded of the amazing play-off match with the Firhill side at the end of that campaign with Billy Kirkwood's United coming within seconds of failing to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their season in the First Division having been relegated the previous campaign.
Since that fateful match, United have maintained their top league status while Thistle fell further down the SFL flirting with the lower reaches of the Second Division before John Lambie turned the club around in superb style winning consecutive promotions.
The match is scheduled for Saturday 3rd August 2002.
