UNITED WIN FINAL TOUR MATCH

15th July 2002

United finished off their three match pre season tour of Austria with a 1-0 win over PSV Salzburg in St Wolfgang. Playing in the Austrian second division, PSV stepped to fill the gap in the Tangerine schedule following the cancellation of the match against original tour opponents, German Third Division side Rot Weiss Erfurt.

The match should have been won more easily than the narrow scoreline suggests with a major plus point being the full ninety minutes appearance of new signing Kevin McGowne. Chances were missed by Venetis, Lilley and McGowne before a superb run and cut back by David Winters resulted in United's young Greek netting the game's only goal quarter of an hour before the end. PSV created one or two chances but Paul Jarvie kept a clean sheet.

United now return home to play in a series of local matches prior to their trip on Saturday 27th July to Highfield Road to take on English First Division side Coventry City.

UNITED: Jarvie, McCunnie, McGowne, Lauchlan (Duff), McCracken, Paterson (Carson), Venetis, O'Donnell (McIntyre), Winters, Smart (Griffin), Lilley
