RESERVES DRAW A BLANK AT TYNECASTLE

26th January 2005

United's Reserve side travelled to Edinburgh this afternoon to face Hearts and, despite giving a good performance, were unable to break down a resolute Hearts defence with Finnish international Tepi Moilanen in particularly impressive form in goal.

United lined up in an unfamiliar 4-3-3 with Jarvie in goal behind a back four of Cameron, Innes, Paterson and Gardiner. The midfield trio was Dodds, Brebner and Duff with Scotland, McLaren and Grady up front. United were in an attacking mood with Dodds, Scotland and Duff all coming close but denied by Moilanen. Second half substitutions saw Robertson replace Grady at half time and on the hour mark Abbot came on in place of Grady but the pattern remained the same and the end result was a good performance but no goals.

After the match Tony Docherty praised the Hearts keeper and said "We were pleased with the performance from our players today but we found their keeper in top form to deny us the win we felt we deserved. Again, our younger boys played well and the more senior players in the squad have shown the right attitude."
